Clement Charles Crawford Obituary

Clement Charles Crawford was born to Rev. Basil B. Crawford and Mrs. Emily B. Gaskin Crawford on June 6, 1952, in Ganado, Tx. At an early age, Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Gideon Baptist Church in “Dry Branch” Jackson County, TX.. He attended grade schools in Edna, TX and Victoria, TX. He graduated from Victoria High School, where he was the 10th Grade Class Secretary and participated in Junior Achievement, DECA, and the Mixed Choir. After graduating in 1970, he continued his educational pursuits at Victoria College and later, San Antonio College. Blessed with the gift of administration, Charles worked at the Antioch Baptist Church, San Antonio Register, and San Antonio Informer. A creative with an eye for detail, he was known as a wedding coordinator, enjoyed arranging flowers, and decorating for events. His love for children and education was evident as he worked as an Instructional Assistant with the San Antonio Independent School District for nearly 28 years, retiring from Smith Elementary School in 2012. Charles was ordained as a deacon and later accepted his call to ministry at the Eastwood Community Baptist Church. He also faithfully served the ministries of the True Vine Baptist Church, St. Luke Baptist Church, New Testament Baptist Church, and Tried Stone Baptist Church, amongst others. At the time of his transition, he was a dedicated and dutiful member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he was a member of the clergy team and served numerous roles including Superintendent of Sunday School, President of the Brotherhood, initiator of the Wednesdays in the Word Bible Study, and member of the Decoration Committee. He was preceded in death by his father; fraternal grandparents; and maternal grandparents, Lee Amos Gaskin and Julia Florene Grant Gaskin and adopted brother, Rev. Burney Ross. He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Emily B. Powell; brother, Pastor Cory S. Powell (Felicia) of Lubbock, TX; sister, Clarrisa Powell of San Antonio, TX; adopted brother, Linwood Moore of Upper Marlboro, MD; adopted sister, Sch Vonne King of San Antonio, TX; nephews, Cory S. Powell, II of Lubbock, TX, and Cedric A. Pitts of San Antonio, TX; niece, Camille Y. Powell of Lubbock, TX; aunt Alfreeda Duncan of San Antonio, TX; uncle, Matthew J. Gaskin of Victoria, TX, along with a host of adopted nieces and nephews, god sisters and godbrothers, godchildren, cousins, other beloved relatives, and treasured friends.
