Martha “Marti” Placone August 2, 1953 – September 9, 2024

Martha Littlefield Placone of Anderson, SC passed away on Monday September 9, 2024, at Prisma Health-Greenville Memorial Hospital, following a months-long struggle with congenital heart disease.

Marti was born in Anderson and spent her formative years in multiple places including New Jersey, South Carolina, New Mexico, and Turkey. Marti received her degree from Clemson University, where she met her husband, Dennis Placone. Marti was a long-time member of the Central Presbyterian Church, served as Parent-Teacher Association president while her sons were attending Centerville Elementary School, and was a one-time baseball coach for Jesse’s team, “The Rockies.”

Marti deeply valued being a member of the Anderson community. She also loved international travel, and had recently enjoyed trips to Europe and Mexico. Her genetic medical conditions made daily life challenging, but Marti relied on her strong spirit and the support of family and friends to build the fulfilling life she wanted. She thrived for more than 20 years after a successful liver transplant surgery in 2001. Never one to be told no, Marti didn’t allow her medical conditions to prevent her from making frequent trips to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to serve as Nana and Aunt Marti to her beloved grandchildren and grand-niece. While at home, she loved supporting neighbors, and had especially cherished being a welcoming place for her sons’ friends, never turning down a dinner guest. A lifelong dog lover, Marti felt her home was a little bit empty without the company of a dog, and made her house a second home for her sons’ pets as well as her own.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Dennis Placone, and sister Patricia Wilkins, Marti is survived by her two sons Greg Placone (Ruth Aronoff) and Jesse Placone (Amanda Placone), and her brother Marshall Littlefield (Cathy Littlefield). Marti was also a much loved “nana” to grandchildren Kyla Placone (6) and Levi Placone (1).

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in The Maple Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm, on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 N. Boulevard, Anderson, S.C. 29621. Rev. Dr. Michael York will officiate. The family will visit with attendees, following the service, in the church hall.

She will be interred by her husband, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.
