Dorothy Lee (Umstot) Simpson, 91, stepped on the Rainbow Bridge to see the man of her dreams Pee Wee and the Lord.
Born on September 15, 1932 to late Arthur and Hannah Umstot in Keyser, WV. She lived in Westernport, MD a small town where she had lifelong friends like Bobby Tichnall and Bill Shimer and her little sister Janet Faye (deceased).
Dot attended and graduated from Bruce High School. She climbed onto the train and off she went to nursing school at City Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. The school was located at Burke and Maple, now known as City Hospital (WVU Medicine). She loved to tell stories of what they had to do in nursing school back in the day and she loved every minute of it. Those City Hospital graduates still meet for lunch once a month. She always wore her cap – a sign of honor and being proud! She worked at Newton D. Baker in the early years and 53 years of service at Berkeley Medical Center. Dedicated to the very end.
Married the love of her life, Earl Mahlon Simpson “Pee Wee” on Sept. 26, 1953 in Piedmont. They were married for 66 years. She met Pee Wee at the Cozy Corner in town and the rest was history. They raised five children together. They traveled every summer on fabulous camping trips around the country. Traveling continued throughout their lives: Maine to Florida, Badlands of South Dakota, Grand Canyon, Aruba, Hawaii, Rivera Maya, Cancun, and many other places.
Dot played the piano and the organ all over the counties of WV. She played piano for many years for the Berkeley Place United Methodist Church and Friendship United Methodist Church until it closed. She played at weddings, funerals, birthdays, Christmas, etc. Dot also taught piano lessons. Having five children each playing an instrument and the piano, Dot now had her own band. They went to hospitals, and nursing homes, singing and playing music. Dot was a 63 year old member of OES #69, and Grand Organist of WV 2005 Grand Chapter.
She is survived by children, Cindy (Randy) Strakal, Buddy (Tara) Simpson, Billy (Pat) Simpson, Carolyn (Clyde) Word, Bobby (Dawn) Simpson; grandchildren, Gene, Bobby (Judith), Krystle (Brian), Lindsey, Brian, Jr., Josh, Wes, Zach, Miranda, Cameren, Jeremiah (Aleeshia), Marin (Logan), Hunter, Rachel (Chris); great grandchildren, Andrew, Maddie, Charlotte, Bradley, Ashlynn, Haidyn, Allison, Isiah, Morris, Jordan, J.T., Ryleigh Jane, Rogan Phoenix, Violet Louise; great great grandchildren, Laythan and Milo Lemen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
