Avice Cothron Jackson, 88, of East Palatka went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring in St. Augustine following a brief illness.
Avice was born in Mayo and coming from Perry had been a longtime resident of Putnam County, living in Palatka and later in East Palatka. She grew up in Mayo and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1952. She retired from the Putnam County Supervisor of Elections office, having worked as an Elections Specialist for many years under Don Hersey, Elections Supervisor. As the wife of the late Dr. Lorace Cothron, she ministered with him at several churches in Florida including the former Tabernacle Baptist Church in Palatka. She was the ultimate pastor’s wife, always willing to volunteer at her church, wearing a smile, and looking to serve as needed. And she was blessed to be married to Gene Jackson for the past 11 years. She enjoyed cooking, boating, camping, and traveling. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Palatka and also attended New Beginning Baptist Fellowship in Palatka with her husband. She was also a member of a car club in Palatka.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 53 years, Dr. Lorace M. Cothron, Sr.; a son, Lorace M. Cothron, Jr.; and a brother, Jimmie E. Sullivan.
Surviving are her Husband, Gene Jackson, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Susie Cothron; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori A. and Greg Lane; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin D. and Kathryn Sullivan, and Kenny and Yvonne Sullivan; two sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia Glass and Jackie and Dalton Whigham; a sister-in-law, Marion Sullivan; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Tyrer, Cassandra Rae D'Auteuil, Matthew Cothron, Rebekah Adkison; Courtney Krahl, Will Cothron, Sarah Cothron, Forrest Krazit, Chase Lane, and Mackenzie Lane; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at Midway Baptist Church, 3407 S.E. Co. Rd. 405 in Mayo, FL with Thomas Cothron and Greg Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
