William G. "Bill" Fennell Obituary

William G. “Bill” Fennell, Sr., 82, of Black Lick, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family.


Born June 9, 1942 in Luxor, he was the son of the late George and Ruth (Swanger) Fennell.


Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served with the 4th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Saltsburg American Legion Post #57.


Bill was employed as a coal miner and welder for the Tunnelton Coal Mine for several years. He was a carpenter for a short period of time. Bill finished his career as a Truck driver with Riggle Trucking in 1993.


He was a member of the Chapel of Hope, Black Lick. Bill volunteered for more than two decades as a paramedic and ambulance driver for the former Avonmore Life Savers and Life Stat. He was the Chief of the former Loyalhanna Volunteer Fire Department for several years.


Bill loved fishing, and enjoyed going to flea markets and riding his motorcycles.


In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Fennell- January 31, 2024.


Bill is survived by his children, William G. (Karen) Fennell, Jr. of Greensburg, Matthew M. (Michele) Fennell of Upper St. Clair, Olivia (Sam) Hilty of Blairsville; grandchildren, Paul (Michelle) Fennell of Greensburg, Marissa (Sonny) Greene of Harrisburg, Matthew (Caitlin) Fennell of Pittsburgh, Sara Fennell of Greensburg, Garrett (fiancé Jada Seice) Johnston of New Alexandria, Zoe (fiancée Blake Sherba) Johnston, Marcus Fennell of Upper St. Clair, Kolle, Kaylay, Kylie Hilty of Blairsville, Kathleen (Jesse Marsh) Hilty of Blairsville, Bretton Hilty of Homer City; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Kuzmin of Tintown; many nieces and nephews; last but not least, his Boston Terrier, Hank.


Visitation will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Reid officiating. Military honors will follow with the Saltsburg American Legion Honor Guard.


In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Chapel of Hope 470 Main St. Black Lick, PA 15716.
