James K. Slagle Obituary

James K. Slagle, 83, of Washington Township, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 in his home.


Born June 12, 1941 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late James K. and Helen (McCutcheon) Slagle.


He worked as a Research Engineer at US Steel in Monroeville, Alcoa Research, and NUMEC, before retiring in 1999.


James was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift. He also volunteered with Washington Township Little League Association for over 15 years.


James was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter.


James is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Priscilla E. (Garzone) Slagle of Washington Township; children, Sheryl A. (Harry) Slagle of Washington Township, Lisa J. (William) Scherfel of Wexford, PA, Scott A. (Carrie) Slagle of Parks Township; grandchildren, Michael (Branda) McCutcheon, Matthew (Kasey) McCutcheon, Courtney Slagle, Maya Scherfel, Leah Slagle, and Will Scherfel; great grandchildren, Bryson McCutcheon and Rhett McCutcheon; sister-in-law, Denise (Peter) Bardon; brother-in-law, Eugene (Denise) Garzone as well as many other family members and friends.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James’s name to Roaring Run Watershed Association PO Box 333 Apollo Pa, 15613.
