Robert G. Whitting, Sr., 83 of Union, entered into eternal rest on September 9, 2024 at Overlook Hospital, Summit. Born in Trenton, NJ, to the late Gerhard & Evelyn (nee: Schmidt) Whitting, he was a graduate of Union High School and a lifelong resident.

Robert was the owner/operator of Arrowhead Exxon on Morris & Elmwood Avenue in Union for many years and also worked with Yousef "Joe" Naser at the Valero Station on Stuyvesant and Elmwood Avenues. He also assisted with servicing and repairs for TSS Sweeping Service in Union. Prior to being an owner, Robert was employed with the former Maxon Pontiac on Route 22.

Cars were his passion. When he was younger, he spent some time racing and as he got older and began working on cars it was clear that his passion would lead to a lifetime full of anything and everything car related. He cherished his two classic Corvettes and was a man that anyone could go to for advice on auto repair and would know exactly how to fix the issue.

Aside from his automotive passion he was also an avid photographer and freelanced working for his friend Allan Reider of Allan Reider Studios of Union.

Robert is the beloved husband of Gail (nee: Hunter), cherished father of Robert, Jr. & his wife Fabiane and is the proud and loving grandfather of Giovanna, John, Sophia & Hunter.

He is also survived by his sister Jeanette Thomson of Florida & his sister-in-law Dottie, wife of his late brother Philip, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Cremation will take place privately.
