Cumberland – Rita Mae (DuVall) Shipley, 82, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 at her home.

Born June 19, 1942, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Claude Thomas and Amanda Alberta (Garland) DuVall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Elizabeth, Juanita, Claude, and Stephen DuVall.

Rita was 1960 graduate of Flintstone High School. She loved to go fishing, BINGO, baking (especially making fruit cakes), and being home. She was a Methodist by faith. Above all she enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially her “not so spoiled” granddaughter and two great grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Shipley; her children, Rodney Shipley (Kimberly), Susan Keel, and Todd Shipley; her “not so spoiled” granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth, her two great grandchildren, Reya and Thrane; her siblings, Mason DuVall (Barbara), David DuVall (Bobbi), Roger DuVall, Donald DuVall (Jeannette), and Linda Taylor; her sister-in-law, Barb Kolb; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Phyllis, Valerie, and Angelina.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 11:00 am until noon. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Rob Pierson officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Spring Gap. Pallbearers will be Mason DuVall, Donald DuVall, Bruce Shipley, Brady DuVall, Paul Lint and Scott Bussard.

In honor of her memory, donations may be sent to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Morgantown, WV.
