Mr. John Leland McLean, 85, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 2PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-1:45 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Winterville Cemetery.

Mr. McLean, son of the late John W. & Gladys McLean, was a native of Cumberland County, and grew up in Palestine Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. After the death of his father, he took special care of his mother and six siblings.

He owned and operated two businesses, Redi-Supply, Inc. from 1972-2014, and Kore-Kut, Inc. from 1985-2014. Both had a big impact on the community. In addition, he worked as a Training Consultant for Special Ops providing equipment for target and hostage extraction, devised a way to effectively core out the cannons on the Queen Anne’s Revenge, and was also a consultant with moving the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.

He enjoyed farming and telling stories about all of his life experiences. He was very devoted to his grandchildren and took great pride in them and truly enjoyed his dogs.

Mr. McLean was preceded in death by his son, Kelly McLean; and siblings, Joy Peavey, Wayne McLean, Grace Merritt, and Jerry McLean.

He is survived by his: wife of 60 years, Dorothy E. McLean; sons, John M. McLean of Greenville; and Stacey E. McLean and wife, Shannon of Clayton; daughter, Angela M. Moore and husband, David of Winterville; grandchildren, April McLean, Hayley Moore, Wyatt Moore, Clark McLean, Rachel McLean, and Eric McLean; sisters, JoAnn Capps and Lila Nicholson, both of Fayetteville; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
