David Sursey Thomas 86 of Abilene, Passed away Monday September 9, 2024 in Abilene, TX. Graveside service will be held Thursday September 12, 2024 at 1pm at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery, with Military Honors. Pastor Travis Sims will be officiating.

David was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Gilbert and Esther Thomas on July 28, 1938. He attended Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married Marguerite Ethyl Burruss on July 6, 1962 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a peacetime Veteran enlisted in the Army on August 2,1955 and honorably discharged July 31, 1963. He loved God and his Country.
He had many jobs in Oklahoma including the Yacht Club, Tulsa Sailcraft, and Bells Amusement Park. In 1979 he then moved with his family to Abilene, Texas. There he went into residential and commercial construction. In 1992 David and Margie moved to Hico Texas. While in Hico he received Citizen of the Year in 2006 for his involvement in the community. He enjoyed playing Bluegrass and Gospel music with family and friends on mandolin and guitar. He also built beautiful cedar furniture. David and Margie moved back to Abilene Texas in 2018 to be closer to their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
David Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. David is survived by his wife, Marguerite E. Thomas, 2 daughters, Susan Thomas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Peggy Ortiz and husband Joe of Abilene Texas. 5 Grandsons, Randal Sims of Eula Texas, Travis Sims and wife Alicia of Abilene Texas, Andrew Sims and wife Jordan of Eula Texas, Zachary Sims and wife Kristen of Eula Texas, and Jarrett Ortiz of Abilene Texas. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
