Randal Harold “Randy” Kuhnke, age 69, of Ferryville, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Bethany St. Joseph care center in Lacrosse after a 3-month battle with cancer. Randy was born on June 30, 1955 to Beverly Jean (Hulbert) and Merritt Eugene Kuhnke in Burlington, WI. He was raised and received his education in DeSoto, WI. He was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Schultz on February 9 1974, following their marriage they had 3 children: Stephanie, Robin, and Chad. Randy was a master mechanic at John Deere, in Lansing, IA, and Waukon, IA, then was a deckhand at Weymiller Marine in Lansing. Randy was a proud volunteer first responder, and firefighter in Lansing until his tragic accident in 1987 while working at Weymiller Marine. Randy loved his family, had many friends, loved old vehicles, traveling, tinkering, and working on whatever he could get his hands on. He loved owls and could make a great hooting owl call. One of his favorite sayings was “I don’t know nothin’ about nothin’, but I know somethin’ about somethin’” He will be missed greatly by his family, and friends.

Randy is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Kuhnke; son, Chad (Crystal) Kuhnke; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, his sister, Brenda Ziebell; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin; sisters, Robin, Linda, and Laurie; and brothers: Rick and Ron.

A Celebration of Randy’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 22, 2024 at the DeSoto Community Center in DeSoto, WI. Burial will be in the Walnut Mound Cemetery, Retreat, WI, at a later date. Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family.

A special thank you to the staff at Bethany St. Joseph, and Gunderson Lutheran Hospice in Lacrosse for the extremely great care they gave Randy in his final months.
