Mrs. Lillian B. Shelton of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2024, at her residence, having attained the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 11 days. She was born on Saturday, April 29th, 1939, in Mercer County, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles Holman “Charlie” &  Amelia Viola (Sallee) McGinnis. She was adopted by Frank & Eddie Burch of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, where she was raised. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church until moving to Burkesville, where she then moved her membership to Burkesville Baptist Church. She was a church pianist for over 50 years combined, and also taught Sunday School. She was willing to do any job needed in the church. She worked for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Stanford Department of Community Based Services, ran a flower shop, and was first lady of Crab Orchard when her husband Phillip was mayor. She was employed in later years at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard. In her free time Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip E. Shelton, Sr. whom she wed on Saturday, June 19th, 1959. As well as her siblings, James Milton “Mac” McGinnis, Jesse Dwight McGinnis, Sue Coffman, & Betty Yocum.

She is survived by her sons: Phillip E. (Rolanda) Shelton Jr. of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dr. Mark (Maribeth) Shelton of Burkesville, Kentucky; siblings: Sara Lear of Radcliff, Kentucky, Bro. Gilbert Robinson of Somerset, Kentucky; grandchildren: Brandon (April) Shelton, Aaron Shelton, Zachary (Julie) Shelton, Tyler (Tabatha) Shelton; great-grandchildren: Alexis, Addison, Andrew, Beckett, Sadie, Beau, Piper, Saylor, & Sawyer.

The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 13th, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. C.S.T. at the Burkesville Baptist Church in Burkesville, Kentucky with Dr. Mark Shelton, Bro. Montel Richardson & Bro. Dennis Sells officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13th, 2024 at Burkesville Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. C.S.T. A second visitation will be held Saturday, September 14th, 2024 beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. E.S.T. with a brief service to follow at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard, Kentucky with burial in the Crab Orchard Cemetery in Lincoln County, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions are appreciated to Burkesville Baptist Church, or the Gideon’s Memorial Bible Plan.
