Lorenzo Waters, affectionately known as "Yak," passed away peacefully at 2:12 am on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Born on August 15, 1961, in Portsmouth, VA, Lorenzo was the beloved son of the late Christine and Ernest L. Waters Jr.

Lorenzo leaves behind a legacy of love and memories. He is survived by his son, Lorenzo William Waters of Portsmouth; two sisters, Joycetine Burton (Imn) of Portsmouth and Monica Thomas (Calvin) of Chesapeake; and three brothers, Ernest L. Waters III (Shirley) of Tazewell, WV, Leonard Waters of Chesapeake, and Keith Waters of Portsmouth.

A proud graduate of Manor High School, class of 1980, Lorenzo was an avid basketball player and a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears. Known for his shy nature, Lorenzo had a unique tradition of calling his siblings, nieces, and nephews to sing "Happy Birthday" to them, a gesture that highlighted his deep love for his family. He cherished family dinners, laughter, and fellowship.

Lorenzo dedicated over 24 years of his life as an electrician at Huntington Ingalls in Newport News. He retired when health issues began to take their toll. Lorenzo was also a devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and his church family held a special place in his heart.

Lorenzo is also remembered fondly by his nephews: Clarence Thompson Jr., Keyon Waters (Morgan), Leonard E. Waters Jr., Ronnie Anderson, and Antwoine Anderson; and his nieces: Valencia Thompson, Shavika Thompson, Kimberly Waters, Krystal Hankins (David), Erika Thomas, and Kisha Anderson. Lorenzo's quiet strength, unwavering love, and devotion to his family and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
