On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the angels arrived early to Southwell Medical
Rehabilitation Center in Adel, GA to take the Lord’s faithful servant Sister Eleanor
Louise Deberry Wright to her heavenly home.
Eleanor was born on March 9, 1945, in Adel, GA to the late John Henry and
Hannah Deberry. She was the youngest of eight children which included: Annie
Mae, Willie, Gladys, Rosa, James, Edith and Joseph. Eleanor graduated from
Cook County Training School in 1962 as her class Valedictorian. After graduation,
she attended an Atlanta beauty school and received her beauticians license and
even after retirement she expanded her education by attending Wiregrass Technical
College.
On May 15, 1965, Eleanor married Aron Wright, and they were married for 55
years until this his untimely death in 2020. Together they were blessed with two
sons, Tony and Randall, three grandchildren Randall Jr., Corey and Shakira and
one great grandson Ellijah.
Eleanor worked at C&D Sportswear in Adel, GA and retired from Riverside
Manufacturing in Moultrie, GA after 35 years.
At an early age, Eleanor joined Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sparks, GA and
remained a faithful member until her health declined. She served on the following
church auxiliaries: Combined and Senior choirs, President of the Senior Choir,
President of the Missionary Society(locally), President of the District Missionary
Society Albany/Thomasville, Recording Steward, Stewardess Member and Church
Secretary.
Eleanor was also very active within the community. She served on the Cook
County Board of Registrars, Secretary on the Cook County Library Board,
Secretary of the Emancipation Proclamation Committee, 2015 Woman of the Year
for the Emancipation Proclamation, Secretary of the Pallbearers Society and the
Treasurer for the CCTC c/o 1962.
She loved to work with different people on various tasks, yet her pride and joy was
the fellowship she had with Pansy Chapter #119 Order of the Eastern Stars.
Eleanor again served faithfully until her health declined, she served as the
Secretary of Pansy Chapter #119 OES, as the Worthy Matron and District Worthy
Matron of Valdosta District #9. Eleanor never grew tired of fellowshipping with
her “Sistars”.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 6 of her siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Tony (Lisa) and Randall (Beth) both
of Adel, GA, three grandchildren, Randall Wright Jr. of Valdosta, GA, Corey
Wright of Stone Mountain, GA and Shikera Mays of Richmond, VA,; one great-
grandson Ellijah Wright of Adel, GA and a special great-grandson Johnathon
Philpot of Columbus, GA, One sister, Rosa Leggett of Montgomery, AL; special
family members Otis Melton Rawls; Bernadine Jones, Alfreda Williams, Tiffany
Clark, Tammy McCarter, special friends Shelva Keeley, Carolyn Walton, Naomi
Pierce, Loretta Pewee, Wilene Stevens, Agnes Lucas and Sharon Durden and a
host of nieces, nephews, family and and friends
