In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Ruffin, Smith, Bynum, Mix and Cook families to announce Mrs. Diane Ruffin Cook of Wilson, North Carolina, age 67, has completed her earthly journey.  Mother Cook transitioned from labor to reward Monday, September 9, 2024 at her residence in Wilson, North Carolina.  She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “Di”. 

Diane was born in Wilson County, North Carolina, April 18, 1957, to the late Mr. Crumb Smith and Mrs. Earline Ruffin Bynum.

She received her education in the Wilson County Public School System.  

During Mrs. Cook’s working years, she worked several jobs starting with cooking. hair stylist, seamstress, machine operator and private duty care giver.

Di loved her children, grandchildren and loving family members.

She took pride in fixing meals and enjoyed watching movies on television, especially her favorite show, Law and Order.

Di was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Crumb Smith and Mrs. Earline Ruffin Bynum and her son, Mr. Quinton Cook.

A public visitation will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.  Pastor John E. Ruffin will officiate.

Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Mother Diane leaves to cherish her precious memories to her daughter, Ms. Latisha Mix of the home; her son, Mr. Jermon Cook (Crystal) of Fresno, California; her granddaughters, Marcrezia Manning, Shontejah King, both of Wilson, North Carolina, DeTyah Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kendra Huddleston of Houston, Texas, Riki Walter and Janay Cook of Sacramento, California; her grandsons, Quinton Cook, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia, Quintarious Cook of Greensboro, North Carolina, Jermon Cook, Jr., of San Francisco, California and Jacquez Cook of Sacramento, California; her two great-granddaughters; her four great- grandsons; her sisters, Mrs. Betty Mercer of Wilson, North Carolina and Mrs. Tracey Witherspoon (Otis) of Wilson, North Carolina; her brothers, Elder John Ruffin (Virginia), Mr. Jerry Ruffin (Cheryl) and Mr. Charles Hines all of Wilson, North Carolina; her aunt, Ms. Linda Graham  of Wilson, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Sunday, September 15, 2024, the family members and friends will assemble at the residence of Ms. Latisha Mix, 904 Corbett Avenue, Wilson, North Carolina at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession to Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Floral arrangements may be delivered to Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina beginning Saturday morning, September 14, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
