William C. Ashworth Obituary

William Carlton Ashworth, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024. He was the husband of the late Shirley Knight Ashworth.


Born in Brookneal on February 13, 1935, he was a son of the late Warren Henry Ashworth and Elsie Godsey Ashworth. He was a US Air Force Veteran; member of Peakland United Methodist Church and was retired from RockTenn formerly Mead Corporation, where he served as Vice President and General Manager.


He is survived by his children, Julie Steele (Larry), Cindy Howard, Frank Mayo Knight, Jr. (Shannon), Lizette Padgett (Jerry); eight grandchildren, Kelley Dobkin (Brian), John May (Amanda), Adam May (Rebecca), Iseman Knight, Austin Knight, Spencer Knight, Isabelle Padgett, Graham Padgett (Brooke) and five great-granddaughters, Abigail, Merritt, Irene, Emma and Madison.


He is also survived by two brothers, Irvin Ashworth (JoAnn), Harry Ashworth (Pauline); and three sisters, Catherine Martin, Bobbie Mayberry and Bernice Williams.


A private inurnment will be held at the church.
