Patricia Joan Rorke (nee Thistle)
June 19th, 1933 – September 9th, 2024
A life well lived… but never easy to say goodbye.
With heavy hearts, the family announces that Patricia Joan Rorke crossed over to the other side of this life, encircled with the love of her family at her bed side, on Monday, September 9th.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard (Rick) Rorke for more than 50 years.
Pat is predeceased by her siblings: Diane, Cathy and Fred.
She is already missed by her four children: Richard (Amelia), Diane (Marc), Stewart (Annette) and Lorna (Peter). She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Megan (Ramy), Joshua, Rebecca (Ken), Katie, Leah, Jonathan, Nolan and Noah.
Pat was born in Port Union and later moved to St. John’s with her family. After marrying Rick, they raised their family in Carbonear and then moved to St. John’s in their later years. Mom was happiest when surrounded by her family indulging in her wonderful baking and cooking. She and dad enjoyed many winters in Florida and road trips across Newfoundland in the summer with friends.
A huge bouquet of gratitude to Dr. Coleman and the compassionate nurses and personal care workers at Tiffany Village in St. John’s. They went above and beyond to provide exemplary care to our mom. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Donations in mom’s loving memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Canadian Cancer Society or Ronald McDonald House.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 from 3:00pm-5:00pm and 6:30pm-8:30pm at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue.
The funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 12th, 2024 at 11:00am from Barrett’s Memorial Chapel with reception to follow in Barrett’s Reception Centre. A private family inurnment will take place later in the day at the United Church Cemetery, Carbonear.
“Death is not the extinguishing of the light, but the blowing out of the candle because the dawn has come.”
