James Edward McEwen, Jr., 79 passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024, Born May 16,1945 in Pittsburgh, PA, to James E. McEwen, Sr. and Flora Austin. James moved to Thomasville, Alabama, at the age of four and was raised by his Aunt Dora and Uncle Alphonso.
He graduated from A.L. Martin High school, in Thomasville, Alabama and earned a BA in English from Tuskegee University. James served in the Army and worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years.
James had a deep passion for football, baseball, boxing, Uconn basketball and music. He was a master at crossword puzzles. He lived a simple life and cherished time spent with family.
James survived by his wife of 49 years, Sarah N. McEwen; a sister Elaine Cambosos; and four daughters, Michelle McEwen, Melissa McEwen, Shana McEwen, and Joyce McEwen and six grandchildren, Izaiah McEwen, Zion Fontaine, Justice Fontaine, Genevieve Mastrianno, Edward Jorden and Shiloh McEwen. He also survived by his in-laws
Late Clarence White, Minister George (Mary), White Minnie P. Carter, the late Minister Mary (Oliver) H. Crittiden, Earthamay (Ward), Willis, Bishop Rosalee (Jimmy) Jackson, Geraldine White, Patrica-Ann Davis, Mary-Ann (John) Furguson and a host of nieces and nephews.
