Mary Jane (Ryan) Abbott

Mary Jane Abbott (known to her grandchildren as Nanny), 88 years old, went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 9, 2024. The daughter of the late Jack and Gladys (Griffore) Ryan, Mary Jane was born on January 13, 1936 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She graduated from St. Andrew High School in 1954. While attending Bay City Junior College, she majored in Elementary Education. She married her high school best friend, Tony Abbott, on November 8, 1958. He survives her. She was a dedicated member of St. John Vianney Parish, serving on the parish prayer line committee. Mary Jane was a member of St. Mary’s Auxiliary tending to customers in the gift shop. She also belonged to the American Contract Bridge League. She directed the ladies bridge games at the Saginaw Club. Mary Jane participated in local area duplicate bridge. Mary Jane and Tony enjoyed family times boating and vacationing at their Torch Lake cottage. They traveled extensively watching their children and grandchildren play sports.

Surviving besides her husband Tony are her daughters, Suzanne (Mark) Birnbaum, Bay City; Laura (Mike) Stapleton; her granddaughters, Sarah (Millet) Mello and Lauren (Kevin) McLean; her grandsons, Luke and Nick Stapleton; her great-granddaughters, Zara and Maya Mello; many nieces and nephews. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bill and Mike Ryan.

Honoring Mary Jane’s wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
