Obituary

Gene Gough, 73

Basil Eugene Gough was born on May 10, 1951, to Basil L. Gough and Afton “Marie” Wilson Gough. He passed away on September 9, 2024. Gene was a lifelong resident of Blackfoot, Idaho.

In 1982, he married Barbara Walton, and became a father to her son, Shane, whom he raised as his own. Two years later, they welcomed their youngest child, a daughter, Kim, who completed their family. Gene also had two children, a daughter, Staci, and a son, Jeremy, from an earlier marriage.

Gene worked at local car dealerships as a parts man and automotive technician. He later went to ISU College of Technology and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Machining Technology, and then worked as a machinist at S&G Electric Motor Repair. He finished out his career working as a millwright for the Carpenter & Millwright Union.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, camping, fishing and riding his four-wheeler. He played baseball in his younger years and enjoyed watching his nephew, children, and grandchildren play.

Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Shane, Kim, Staci, and Jeremy (Amy); nine grandchildren, Gracey, Rylie (Schuyler Ziegler) Walton, Morgan Jean (Peyton Strupp), Hailey (Geno Thomas), Ella, Alex, Emily Byington, Sammi and Jerod; and two great-grandsons, Sawyer “Gene” Strupp and Finn Strupp; sister, DeeAnn Chavez; and brother, Layne (Linda) Gough.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Fil Chavez; and father-in-law, Dave Walton.

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Douglas Anderson and the chemotherapy nurses at the Portneuf Cancer Center, his nurse, Mary with Aspen Home Health and Hospice, and the staff at the Gables of Ammon Assisted Living for the compassionate care and treatment they provided.

Gene will be remembered for his one-of-a-kind personality, his sense of humor, and his infectious laugh. He lived life on his own terms and, in keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal services.

The family is under the care of Hawker Funeral Home.
