Corinne Gayle Barnhart Obituary

Corinne Gayle Barnhart, age 87, of Carleton, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at her residence.

Born on February 11, 1937 in Pyro, Ohio, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Olive (Meyers) Ross. On October 20, 1956, she married Jack Barnhart in Jackson, Ohio.

Throughout her life she was employed as a secretary and a factory worker and lastly a cook at Airport Schools, retiring in 2017. She loved her time at the school interacting with the students, who affectionately referred to her as “Cookie”. The job that she took most seriously though was her job as a mother and a grandmother.

Corinne was active in Flat Rock United Methodist Church, as well as Carleton United Methodist Church as she was able. She sang in the choir and helped deliver food baskets to those in need. She enjoyed cooking and tending to her flowers. In her younger years she spent time sewing, golfing, bowling and walking.

She was described by all those who knew her as selfless, generous and kind, putting others’ needs above her own. She will be greatly missed, but as a Christ follower, she is now in a place much greater than here.

Corinne was preceded in death by her husband Jack of 67 years, her parents, and sister, Julia Dickens.

She is survived by her children, Kim Barnhart, Paula (Adam) McCallum, Andrew (Catie) Barnhart; grandchildren, Dillan Barnhart, Nicky Barnhart, Bradley Barnhart, Tonya McCallum, Kayla (Zaine Townsend) McCallum, Heather Zahorchak, Ashley Zahorchak; great-grandchildren, Karter, Zander, Zara; siblings, E. Jean Townsend, Marvin (Violeta) Ross, Barbara (Harlan) Board.
