James C. “Jim” “Jimmy” Lipe, age 84, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 2:10 AM on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.

He was born on October 6, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Marvin and Helen (Graves) Jones. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, Illinois. He married Delores Ann Windish on August 1, 1971, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife, Delores Lipe of Galesburg, Illinois; three children: John (Anielle) Lipe of Richton Park, Illinois, Jennifer (Brad) DeWolfe of Oneida, Illinois, and Mary (Doug) Moscrip of Hobart, Indiana; three grandchildren Lauren (Dylan) White, Megan Sperry, Emily (Kaleb) Karssen; two step-grandchildren Adam and Shane DeWolfe; four great-grandchildren; and many half-siblings and foster siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He worked in Quality Control at Maytag for 39 years and as a construction laborer for Local #538. He was a long-time member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois. He was from the “School of Hard Knox” and over the years he mowed yards, delivered firewood, and helped anyone in need. He also went on more coffee breaks than anyone could count! He will always be remembered for his work ethic and his love of the Cubs baseball team, playing cards, doing puzzles, and, above all, spending time with his family. If you asked him how he was, his answer was always "puzzled, confused, and unorganized". He always called people "George" or "Susie-Q" and he never met a stranger.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois. with visitation one hour prior to services at the Church. Burial will be at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Pre-School or to the church.
