Kay E. Priebe, 62, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Sumner, died suddenly, but peacefully, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief battle with cancer.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 13, 2024, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will precede the service at the Church on Friday starting at 10:00 AM.


Kay Ellen was born March 16, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, and adopted into the loving home of her parents, Eugene and Corrine (Pipho) Woodcock. She was baptized June 2, 1962, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, and confirmed April 11, 1976, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner. Kay received her education in the Sumner Schools and graduated from Sumner High School in 1980. On August 4, 1984, she was united in marriage with David Priebe at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Together, they raised their three children, Jessica, Josh, and Traci. Kay began her career at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner as a nurse’s aide, and continued her education at N.I.C.C. in Calmar earning a LPN and later RN Degree. She retired from CMH in 2023, following a forty-three year career as a nurse. In addition to nursing, Kay and her husband Dave started Celebrations. She was a long-time active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, serving on Church Council, Decorating Committee, Building Improvement Project, Deacon, and was a member of Excelerating Sumner and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Kay and her husband Dave were also very instrumental in the success of Lights in the Park, something that brought a lot of joy to both of them, and the community they loved. She enjoyed traveling, whether by land, sea or in the air, visiting many different countries and places across the United States. Kay loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was very dedicated to her community and enjoyed staying active in many activities. Kay however kept her life’s motto simple: Love God & Family.


Kay is survived by her children, Jessica (Brent) Sherburne of Spring Grove, Minnesota, Josh (Danielle) Priebe of Cedar Falls, and Traci (Davyon) Lloyd of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren, Claire and Jadyn Sherburne, Mackenzie, Madison, Emma and Jaxon Priebe; brother, Tom (Jennifer Lake) Woodcock of Westgate; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, parents, biological mother, Donna Upp, and brother, Jack Woodcock.
