Shirley Frances Doll Schooler, of Covington, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Shirley was born May 27, 1933, in Washington, D.C.
She attended nursing school in Winchester, VA and worked a registered nurse for many years. She
remained interested in science and medical topics throughout her life and frequently discussed
them with her nephew-in-law, Dr. Stephen Weiss. In the early 60s, she lived in New York City, where
she met Leonard P. Schooler. They married on Friday, October 13, 1967, after which Shirley joined
Leonard living in northern Kentucky. Shirley and Leonard welcomed their daughter, Victoria Doll, in
1972.
Shirley was very involved in the community, serving on the Board of Welcome House, and active in
her church, Christ Church Cathedral, where she was a member of the Flower Guild and the Altar
Guild. She was a passionate animal lover who enjoyed visiting the zoo and seeing animals in their
natural habitat on safari. In her seventies and eighties, she traveled extensively, visiting Peru, India,
Nepal, Kenya, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Greece, among
others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard P. Schooler. Shirley is survived by her
daughter, Victoria D. Schooler, of Covington, KY, nephew Robert L. Schooler, of Covington, KY, niece
Susie (Stephen) Weiss and great-niece, Tessa Weiss, of New Smyrna Beach, FL. A service will be
held in her honor at 11 am on Friday, September 13 at Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati, OH,
with visitation preceding from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial
donations to Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens and Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP).
