Joel Mark Durbin Obituary

Joel Mark Durbin, 53, of Raleigh, NC formerly of Mount Vernon, OH passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Universal Health Care in Oxford, NC following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Mount Vernon on September 25, 1970 to Patricia A. (Crunkilton) Carpenter and the late Steven Durbin.


Joel was a welder by trade. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan and loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.


Joel is survived by his wife, Mary “Lucy” (Wallace) Durbin; his mother and stepfather, Patricia (Jack) Carpenter; a stepson, Rick Hampton; three step grandchildren; stepsisters, Cheryl (Barry) Whitt and Cathy (Don) Saylor; a stepbrother, Scott (Donna) Carpenter; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.


In addition to his father, Joel was preceded in death by a stepson, Jamie Hipp; a stepsister, Carole Everhart; maternal grandparents, Don and Helen Crunkilton; and paternal grandparents, Christopher and Johanna Durbin.


The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service celebrating the life of Joel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd., Mount Vernon. Pastor Gordon Harmon will be officiating. The family will observe a private inurnment at North Liberty Cemetery.
