Cecil "Pete" Eugene Miller Obituary

Cecil "Pete" Eugene Miller, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at Stansell House on August 30, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on April 14, 1941, in Bloomington, IL, Pete lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service.

Pete was the cherished husband of Wanda Sue Miller, and their marriage was a beautiful partnership that lasted 39 years, filled with deep affection, mutual respect, and boundless devotion. Together they navigated life's triumphs and challenges with grace and unity.

Blessed with a loving family, Pete was the proud father of Derek Miller of Fairfax, VA; Lorie Northam (Stacy Sparrow) of Pocomoke, MD; and Steve Thornes (Susan Bradshaw) of Crisfield, MD. His legacy extends through his adoring grandchildren: Will Northam Jr. and his partner Lisbeth Hernandez and her son Christopher; Whitney Northam; Kayla and Logan Cavaliero ; and Leiah Thornes. He also leaves behind his brother Dareld Miller and sister Irene Mayes. The memory of Pete will also be safeguarded by his loving Sisters and Brothers-in-laws Tana and Jr Taylor; Michele Isdell and Eric Wiseman as well as his Mother-in-law Norma Merritt, Father-in-law Arthur and Claudia Godwin; Sister-in-laws Teresa and Ray Adkins, and April Pruitt (Travis Roughton), as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Miller and Daisy Whites, his sister, Phyllis Rager and her husband Bob, and two cherished grandchildren, Stevie and Drew.

After graduating from Stanford High School in Stanford, IL, Pete honorably served four years in the Navy as a deep sea photographer, a role that paved the way for his future endeavors. His post-naval career saw him contribute his talents to the Wallops Naval Base, where he strengthened the Photo Lab team for over a decade. Pete eventually moved on to become the General Manager of Captain's Cove, where his leadership was both respected and appreciated for 25 years.

A man of profound faith, Pete was a devoted member of the Greenbackville Union United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual solace and camaraderie. His interests were as earnest as his work ethic; he was passionate about antiquing, with a particular fondness for antique bottles. A lover of the great outdoors, he relished the times spent camping and hiking with family and friends.

Pete will always be remembered as loving and selfless. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide all those who were fortunate enough to have crossed his benevolent path.
