Reverend Scott D. Hall, 75, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away on August 30, 2024, at the Ozarks Methodist Manor after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Scott was born to Esmond W. Hall and Joan A. Morton Hall on January 20, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York. He was baptized at Union United Methodist Church in September 1949, beginning his life-long involvement with the Methodist Church.

Scott grew up in Claremont, New Hampshire though he resided in Missouri for most of his life. Scott attended local grade school and graduated from Stevens High School, New Hampshire in 1967. He studied at Central Methodist University, graduating with the class of 1971 and went on to receive his Master of Divinity at Saint Paul School of Theology, followed by a Doctor of Ministry at McCormick Theological Seminary.

Scott served over fifty years in ministry as a pastor with numerous Methodist Churches in Missouri including Zion Hill United Methodist Church in Concordia, Grace United Methodist Church in Higginsville, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore, United Methodist Church in Nevada, Aurora United Methodist Church, Webster Hills United Methodist Church in Webster Groves, and Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington. Scott was an amazing pastor; his sermons would captivate and unite the congregation. He became known for rebuilding and unifying church communities. He was a steadfast leader providing support for his congregation through times of celebration and grief. He had a passion for serving the less fortunate and organized numerous missions locally and abroad including trips to The Soviet Union, Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Kenya, Tanzania, Costa Rica, Mexico, Haiti, and India. He led several groups to the Holy Land and Wesley’s England – the birthplace of the Methodist Church.

He served on numerous school boards, hospital boards, and helped propel community projects including the start of an adult day care center, a local Habitat for Humanity, a sheltered workshop, youth ministry programs, and the growth of local food pantries. Scott stayed for an unusually long time with many of his churches - most likely because it was hard for the congregation and community to let him go.

Scott chose Aurora as his place of retirement for the fellowship and friendship he found among the church and community. He was strong with his faith and passionate about sharing it with others. Scott will be remembered as an energized, faithful, spontaneous, resilient, and perpetually optimistic person.

In addition to his passion for ministries and serving his church and community, he also had a nostalgia for items of the past, any new gadget or gizmo, cats, Scottie dogs, classic cars, traveling, worldly cuisines, games… the list goes on. Once you got to know Scott it was hard not to love him - he had an interest and compassion for all those around him and will be missed.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents and brother and is survived by his stepchildren. In Scott’s own words: “I have truly been blessed in my ministry and hope I have touched others with blessings.”

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Aurora, under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home.
