~ Obituary ~
Joy and pain was given to Glennon and Linda Steele (pain I’ve never felt before).
His father and godfather Theodore(Thedo)Williams rushed me to the hospital at 6:25 p.m. On Wednesday May 12, 1971 our first born Glennon LaVrene Steele was here. He flourished into full bloom and after the changing of a number of seasons, the “Chief Gardner” decided to pluck it up on September 3, 2024.
LaVerne, as he was called, attended the public schools of Marion County and finished his education in Orlando, Florida with his cousins who were all raised under the same roof. Frenchy, Dion, Leroy, and Harry For the people who didn’t know them, thought they were sisters and brothers which they called each other to this day.
He is preceded in his death Glennon Steele (Father), Shirley S. Johnson (Aunt) and paternal and maternal grandparents. Three uncles: Merkie Troy Askins, Richard (Smokey) Askins, and James (Frog) Askins.
His memories are being cherished by his mother Linda A Steele his four siblings who are the stars of his life: Yolanda Michelle, Portugal Yvette, Alexander Love, Dana Baby Sister, one aunt Dorothy Jean (Faye) Davis, many many nieces, nephews. They were an everyday present in his life: Var’Shan, Bria, GarLesha, Kadejah, Malik, TaVarus, TyMere, Keionna, Jalik, Ty”Shey, and Tyson. And the littlest crew of 16 great nephews, nieces and host of relatives and friends. Our extended family: James Brown, The KInneys, Legettes,Johnsons, and the old school posse of Pickens Street and Rosewood PJ’s. Special Friends Danielle & Lisa
Laverne loved to cook for his family who he spoiled cooking for them. Wow! He could cook whatever they wanted him to do, all you had to do was tell him and he would hook it for them. Any kind of salads (better than the restaurant), wings, or whatever in the refrigerator, he would cook it and do it well. We will miss that. Good cooking is a family tradition. Our chef Mr. G.
He loves sports, but his favorite was football. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and North Carolina Tar Heels. He wore his team gear proudly and didn’t care if you weren't on his team. He would let you know that you were supporting a sorry team. And his words would be “One Time For The Horses”. (Isn’t that right Jimmy Legette)
