Linda Mckelvey, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on August 30, 2024, at the age of 52, following a long and hard-fought battle—not with cancer itself, but with the lasting health complications caused by her cancer treatment. Diagnosed at age 32 with stage 4 cancer, Linda defied the odds and miraculously pulled through, even though her chances of survival were slim. These last 20 years were a precious gift, and though they were filled with recurring health challenges, Linda faced them with her trademark strength, humor, and determination.
Linda was a woman who believed in living fearlessly and loved deeply. Her love for animals, especially her two pugs, Pawpi and Dan, knew no bounds. Her dogs were her constant companions, and their antics never failed to bring a smile to her face. One of her greatest loves, however, was her pug Pugi, who stayed loyally by her side throughout her entire cancer journey. Linda will be laid to rest alongside him, their bond unbroken even in death.
Linda was a master of lightening the mood, always ready to turn tense moments into a reason to laugh. Whether she was making silly faces or cracking sarcastic one-liners, she had an extraordinary ability to bring joy to any situation. Her wit was matched only by her love of music – the louder, the better – and her beloved iced coffee, which she drank like it was water.
In her spare time, Linda was a creative soul, making handmade cards for those she cared about and taking countless photos. She also found solace in her many internet friends who supported her through thick and thin, forming a virtual army that was always there when she needed it most.
Linda is survived by her daughter Theresa (Teri) Cano, son-in-law Alonso Cano, her cherished grandchildren Olivia (5) and Lincoln (3), and her nephews Ryan and Ian Jennerjohn. She leaves behind her pugs, her fierce love of life, her stubborn streak, and a world that feels a little quieter without her loud music, big heart, and indomitable spirit.
Linda will be missed by all who knew her, but her humor, courage, and love for life will live on in the stories, smiles, and songs she left behind.
