Ronnie Barnes Obituary

Ronnie James Barnes, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, after a short illness. Born in Joplin, Missouri, on September 4, 1948, Ronnie's zest for life and dedication to his family defined his 75 years. Ronnie grew up in a loving home with his parents, Waldo J. Barnes and Oleta (Brewster) Barnes, and his siblings. He graduated from Miami High School and furthered his education at Northeastern A&M. Ronnie's great work ethic shone brightly during his years as a lineman for Verdigris Valley Electric in Collinsville, OK, where he was known for his reliability and dedication to his job and co-workers who became lifelong friends. His life was filled with love and laughter, shared with his wife, Linda Jean Barnes, who was the cornerstone of his world until her passing. Ronnie was also preceded in death by his father, Waldo, his mother, Oleta, his brother Terry, and his beloved daughter, Brandi Carroll. His legacy, however, lives on through his sons, Jake Barnes of Vinita, OK, and James Barnes, alongside his wife Amanda, of Tahlequah, OK. Ronnie's sister Becky Davis and her husband Bill, from Afton, OK, and his brother Greg Barnes, also of Afton, will forever hold their brother in their hearts. As he was affectionately known, Papa will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Starr, Ashley, Kenley, David, Lane, and Katie. His great-grandchildren, Mia and Brandi Lynn will grow up hearing legendary stories of their great-grandfather's adventures and kindness. Ronnie's spirit will continue to guide them as they navigate their paths through life. Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman whose passion for hunting and fishing was surpassed only by his love for his family. Those who knew him could often find him outdoors, where he found great peace and contentment. An enthusiastic supporter of OU Football, Ronnie's excitement and team spirit were contagious, bringing joy to all around him during the season. As the sun sets on a life so fully lived, we bid farewell to Ronnie James Barnes, a man of integrity, humor, and immense love for his family and friends. His story is one of genuine connection and heartfelt moments, a narrative that will be recounted with smiles and a fondness that endures. A private ceremony will be held to honor the memory of Ronnie. His final resting place will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton, Oklahoma, where he will be laid to rest, surrounded by the natural beauty that he so loved. Ronnie's spirit, like the rivers he fished and the fields he walked, will flow eternally through the lives of those he leaves behind
