Francis Spizzirri, of Pequannock, New Jersey, entered eternal rest after a long illness, on September 4, 2024, at the age of 88.
Frank was born on December 7, 1935, and lived a full and active life until recent years. He cared for his family, his friends, and his community with a passionate commitment to service and loyalty, with a firm resolve to do what needs to be done, and a strong faith.
Frank is survived by his wife of 66 years, Georgia Spizzirri of Pequannock, NJ. The two were married on September 15, 1957, and they remained in love throughout their life together.
Frank is survived by their two daughters, Karen Youngs (James) of Pequannock, NJ, and Kathy James (Robert) of Butler, NJ. Kathy and Robert gave Frank two grandsons, Ryan James (fiancé Nicole), and Kevin James (wife Jennifer). He loved those boys with heart and soul. The eldest Ryan was born on Frank’s birthday.
Frank is also survived by his beloved sister-in-law, Carolyn Carey, and her children John Carey, and Nancy Carey.
Before marrying Georgia, Frank worked for New Jersey Bell. He then enlisted in the US Army in the 1956 Signal Corp, and was stationed in Verdun, France for a 3-year tour. They married and boarded a ship to France for their honeymoon, and to start their new life for the duration of his tour in France. Once back in the US, he returned to work for New Jersey Bell, from 1958 – 1988, working his way up through the ranks from lineman to upper management.
In 1985, Frank and Georgia became business owners of Royal Video in Rockaway, NJ. Three years after opening the store, Frank retired from New Jersey Bell after 30 years of loyal employment. For 12 years, Royal Video, the family business thrived. In 1997, both Frank and Georgia retired.
Along the way, Frank held many positions of service to the community, as a fireman, a special police officer, and several important town committees. Later, as the Chairman of The Open Space Committee in Pequannock, NJ, he relocated 42 families from the flood zone along the river. He organized the buyout of the regularly flooded homes and helped them find new homes. With his consistent and successful efforts on this project, he was awarded Citizen of The Year in Pequannock Township in 2011. Georgia drove him up the main drag in the town parade in a red convertible. The entire town cheered for two miles.
Throughout Frank’s life, he had many passionate interests and hobbies. He loved marching bands, and opera music, and whistling songs during his days. In their leisure time, he and his friends formed hunting clubs and joined motorcycle clubs. Frank collected classic cars, some he restored and some he bought in mint condition, and he loved to show them at the local car cruise nights. Frank made so many friends and touched so many lives, that everybody knew him. He helped so many people fix broken things, he could fix anything. He was a generous and compassionate family man. He gave chocolates to his daughters on every Valentine’s Day. He plowed everybody’s driveway on snowy days. He never missed a chance to give love, and to show love by example, and his legacy is a life well lived and a man well loved.
