Norma L. Eisert Obituary

NORMA EISERT has died at age 97 after a short series of illnesses. She has been an amazing force in Girl Scouting, locally and regionally, in civic work with her town’s zoning laws and appeals boards and tree board, she was a real estate broker, was active in the Women’s Study Club and the Business & Professional Women’s Club, she was an avid reader and an equally avid driver, o5en covering 300-400 miles per week. And she was devoted to her 200-year-old church, where she also served as office manager for many years and, to date, served on the regional administrative presbytery board. She lived in Salem, IN, since the very early 1950s. And although she was always in motion, if you needed her wisdom, her wit, prayer, her laughter or help with a project or problem, she was there for you! Please join us for a celebration of Norma’s joyous, giving, and determined life at 2:00 pm ET this Friday, September 6th. The service will be held in the Salem Presbyterian Church at 110 North High Street, Salem, IN 47167. The church doors will be open at 1 pm ET and the Dawalt Funeral Home very nearby will be in charge of parking starting at 1 pm since the Presbyterian Church is light on parking spots and we want parking to be easily available for everyone. This is to be a true free-form celebration of Norma!  So if you have funny stories, touching stories, times when you could not stop laughing, difficulties you and Norma walked through together, little details that give us insight into her, recollections of how she has influenced your life – whatever! Bring them all! Don’t be shy!! You don’t have to be eloquent. Bring as many as you like! And if you don’t want to speak, just come and join us. Norma's life itself was a sermon so this is a time to share it, cheer and give thanks for someone who has often made even the gloomiest day or task seem bright. And after we finish we will go straight to the church’s greeting area for refreshments and more casual visiting and conversation. So please pass this information along to anyone who knows Norma – and she seemed to know about everyone in Southern Indiana and regions beyond. There is no “viewing,” graveside service and no flowers except on her casket, so if you wish to offer some tribute in Norma’s name, please offer it either to the Salem Presbyterian Church via Pastor Richard Clark or to Hosparus Donations, 502 Hausteldt Lane, New Albany, IN 47150. This amazing hospice organization has been such a help to Norma and her family these last few months. For those who attend, family members would appreciate you signing the guest book. Con0nued If you aren't physically able to attend the service, which is more of a gathering of friends, you may call in and share your thoughts and memories with the people attending at the simple church that Norma loves and you can listen to all the comments. But the church needs your name and phone number in advance to make their system work because the historic church doesn’t have Zoom capability. You can call Norma’s daughter, Sandra Eisert, at 206-604-5540 to get yourself listed to be a part of the service by phone. Anything you want to share will be welcomed but Sandra needs to let the church know in advance who is calling, their phone numbers and if you wish to speak by phone about your friendship and experiences with Norma. Preceding her in death are Norma’s husband, Erwin Eisert, her son, Bruce Eisert, and her brother Lloyd Bailey. She always joked that she was 39, which was the age of her spirit, but she lived longer than any of member of her family. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Eisert, of Seattle, Bruce’s four children – Rochelle, Kelly, David and Kevin – and her five great-grandchildren. She’s also survived by her beloved nephews, Steve Bailey and Ronnie and Paul Eisert as well as niece, Joyce Harberson. Norma was an inspiration to many of us. She has touched so many lives. There’s no doubt she will continue to touch each of us as she launches this next chapter in her life
