Richard Dennis Tippett, Jr. Obituary

Richard Dennis Tippett, Jr., 82, of Hollywood, MD, passed away on September 1, 2024 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on January 19, 1942 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Eleanor Beatrice Tippett and the late Richard Dennis Tippett, Sr. Richard was the loving husband of Mary Louise Tippett, whom he married on November 30, 1963 in St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Richard Dennis “Buddy” Tippett III (Susie) of Loveville, MD and Joseph Michael “Joey” Tippett (Linda) of California, MD, his siblings, James Samuel Tippett (Peggy) of Leonardtown, MD and Gay Dawn Fowler (Jamie) of Avenue, MD, his daughter-in-law, Melissa Tippett, of Hollywood, MD, his grandchildren, Nicole Tippett, Richard Dennis “Ricky” Tippett IV, Courtney Tippett, Chad Tippett, and Bobbie Jo Tippett, and his great-grandchildren Savannah Smith, Ayden Tippett, Kaylee Woodburn, Brielle Jones-Hurley, Charlie Woodburn, Jackson Tippett, Jamison Tippett, Kevin “KJ” Bryant, Malachi Tucker, and Kenna Jo Bryant. Richard was preceded in death by his son, James Anthony Tippett, his brother, David Allen Tippett, and his grandson, James Anthony Tippett, Jr.

Richard was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. He was the owner and founder of Tippett’s Construction for over 60 years. Richard was the grandson of the late Capt. Sam Bailey, which is where his love for the water, boats, and seafood came. His passion for boat racing started at a very young age. Over the years, Richard had many boats; his favorite boat was “Fuelish Pleasure”, a flat-bottom, 540 cubic inch Ford. He won over 50 races and several championships across the country. He traveled to over 47 states during his racing times and had a love for driving nonstop until he needed fuel to get to his events. Richard enjoyed eating at his favorite restaurant, Abell’s Diner.

Richard was well-known as one of the toughest, hardest working men you would know. He could figure out how to fix or build anything. He loved his wife, Coo-Girl, dearly, as she was always by his side, supporting him in all of his passions and adventures.
