Howard E. Shepperd (90) a longtime Stewartville, MN resident was called to eternal rest on Wednesday August 28th 2024 from an apparent cardiac arrest   at his home.

Howard Erwin Shepperd was born on January 7,1934 in Howard Lake, MN to Erwin and Alice (Birkholtz) Shepperd. He was raised on the family farm, attended country school and Howard Lake HS, graduating in 1951. Howard was married on December 9, 1951 in Howard Lake, MN to Dorothy A. Fasching. He enlisted into the US Air Force serving 4 years during the Korean Conflict including duty overseas on Okinawa Island, Japan.  Following his discharge he attended the University of Minnesota,   Following their marriage the couple lived in Sacramento CA, Freemont NE, Minneapolis and Stacy MN.  They moved to Stewartville in 1974 where they raised their children and have continued to make their home. Howard was employed with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for over 30 years until his retirement. Dorothy was a homemaker and was employed at Bonner Elementary School in Stewartville for seven years as a paraprofessional. Dorothy passed away on January 11, 2021. Howard was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville. He also was a member of the Stewartville American Legion Post 164, the Stewartville Sportsmen’s Club and Ducks Unlimited. Dorothy and Howard enjoyed traveling together, going on cruises and visiting their children across the country. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, reading and following the Mn Twins.  Howard loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great - grandchildren.

Howard is survived by 4 daughters and 2 sons. Patti (Brian) Andersen of Hickory TX; Brad (Gail) of Euless TX; Beth Stone of Haslet TX; Brenda (Jim) Burgess of Albuquerque NM; Pam Beirne of Rochester MN; Jason (Tonya Stewart) of Idaho Falls ID and daughter-in-law – Cheryl Shepperd of Maple Grove, MN; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his son Bruce, his parents, three brothers and one sister and two son-in-law’s.

 A Celebration of Howard’s Life will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville, at a later date, with Rev. Justin Kumfer officiating.
