Robert Stephen (Steve) Michael, age 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones on Friday, August 30, 2024 in Buckhead, Georgia. He was born in Marietta, Georgia on December 13, 1943 to Dan and Lucille Michael and attended South Cobb High School. He was a Shriner and served in the United States Army stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. After the military, Steve worked for Mrs. Kinser's Salad until he joined his father at Southern Wholesale Glass. He and his brothers continued to grow the business. 

Steve married Cindy Fordham on December 5, 1980 at Milford Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. They moved to Morgan County in 2001 and are members of Madison Baptist Church in Madison, Georgia. 

He loved all things racing –horses, dirt bikes, corvettes and Nascar. He and his brothers raced motorcycles and later raced cars under Michael Motorsports. He belonged to various car clubs including Madison’s local Country Road Cruisers, Atlanta Classic Thunderbird Club, and Corvette Club of Atlanta. 

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harry Michael (Joyce) and Janet Pipkin (Dave). 

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; brothers, Freddie and Mark Michael (Lee); children, Justin Stephen Michael (Terri), Cameron Tyler Michael (Jen), Ansley Michael Cheeley (Harrison); grandchildren Henry Michael, Tuck Michael, Harry Cheeley, Mary Louise Cheeley; step-grandson Taylor Alligood (Liz), and step-great-grandchildren, Camden Alligood, and Taron Alligood.  He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other family members that he loved dearly. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Madison Baptist Church on Saturday, September 7. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 11:30AM until service time at 12:30PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital at choa.org.

His love for cars and motorsports has been passed down generations to his kids and grandkids.  In honor of our Pa, we invite everyone to drive their classic car to the service.
