Kenneth Clifford Segal passed away August 30, 2024 peacefully in his home at the age of 87. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Clifford Segal and Stella Segal (née Meyer). Born in Bond Hill on December 5, 1936, he was a graduate of Western Hills High School, Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!), and Chase College of Law.
Ken, or "Kenny," as many affectionately called him, had a deep love and appreciation for Cincinnati, its history, and its rich architectural heritage. He practiced law and operated his father's uniform business before choosing to pursue his passion for renovating historic buildings, in the late 1960s. His work renovating both residential and commercial spaces, including the Holy Cross Monastery (now the Monastery Event Center), and his contributions as president of the Mt. Adams Urban Community Redevelopment Corporation, were integral in the revitalization of Mt. Adams that took place during the 1970s, and which propelled it into becoming the unique and flourishing neighborhood it is today. He was also instrumental in revitalizing East Walnut Hills and, in 1980, restoring The Belvedere in North Avondale to its former glory. Ken's enduring pride in his hometown, his dedication to preserving its unique historic architecture, and his vision, have left an indelible legacy.
Ken's other great loves were Ohio State Football, his summer home on Prince Edward Island, the arts--especially Opera, his painting collection, his red BMW convertible, and above all, his family. Grieving the vast loss of his presence are his loving wife Karen Segal (née Knarr), daughters Missy (Brian) Fox, Ashlie (Max Maccoby) Hubbard, and Sara Segal; former son-in-law Aaron Luckett; grandchildren Ida Maccoby, Martin Maccoby, and Wren Luckett; sister Shirley Shaw; and nieces and nephews Jeff Shaw, Julie Duffy, Brad Shaw, David Shaw, Kim Teske, and Heidi Webb.
Ken was a dedicated husband and father, beloved by his friends and family for his sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and steadfast loyalty. He was larger than life, and will be deeply missed. The funeral service for Ken will be held in the Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery on September 7, 2024: Visitation at 12:30 PM, with the funeral service at 1:30 PM and burial following immediately afterwards.
