Robert Allen Mervenne of Grand Rapids, Michigan, age 77, passed away on August 30, 2024. Robert, known to his friends and family as Bob, was born to Leonard and Lucille (Koppelman) Mervenne on April 22, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bob was born the second of four children. He excelled in baseball and was selected All-City while attending Union High School. He was a 1965 graduate from Union and then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Western Michigan University. He then started his 40+ year career as a business owner, helping with and eventually running the family business, The Pump House, a local neighborhood pub.

Bob married his first wife, Janice Billy, in 1973 and they had three children together before eventually divorcing amicably. Bob married Joan Mervenne (Kutilek) in 1987, and their son Jesse was born in 1998. Bob and Joan had a loving marriage until her passing in 2022. Through the years, Bob enjoyed camping, ski trips, playing golf, traveling with family and friends, and visiting St. Maarten whenever he could. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Michigan football fan. Go Blue!

Bob was a beloved father, husband, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected, but he was surrounded by all four of his children and had the prayers and support of many others. While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many and will be missed greatly. Bob is survived by his four children: Mike (Heather) Mervenne, Kelly (Brian) Darling, Mollie (Dave) Lockard, and Jesse Mervenne; grandchildren: Mackenna, Chloe, Blayke, Cameron, Brooke, Ashtyn, Brayden, Lauren, and Ava; mother-in-law, Marilyn Kutilek; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Joan Mervenne; parents, Leonard and Lucille; his siblings, Pete, Tom, and Barb; and grandson, Austin.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Friday, September 6th, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with an after-funeral reception at The Pump House, 1507 Langley St. SE, Grand Rapids.
