Sarah Holland Allen Obituary

Mrs. Sarah Holland Allen of Raleigh, N.C., went to heaven on the morning of August 30th, 2024. She was the daughter of Mr. Thomas Holland and Mrs. Lela Holland of Four Oaks, N.C. She was the wife of Mr. Herbert Allen, and they were married for 64 years. She was the mother of three boys: William, George, and Barry Allen. She was also the very proud grand-mother to one very beautiful grand-daughter, Georgia Grace Allen, who is a Sophomore at the University of South Carolina. She has one remaining sibling, Mr. Landis Holland (Martha). She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. George Allen, and her husband of 64 years, Mr. Herbert Allen.

She loved working in her yard, and she had a very beautiful yard. She had a green thumb, and she loved flowers and other plants. She did flowers for weddings for many years, and she had a great love for animals, enjoying the deep friendship of many cats throughout the years as well as several dogs. She also fed any other kind of animal and birds that showed up on her back porch or in her backyard. She worked for about a decade for a major corporation and was eventually promoted to a supervisory role, and she also had a long career in Accounts Payable at Winn-Dixie Warehouse. She also held a job at First Citizens Bank in her earlier years. She was a graduate of Benson High School, and she was very wise in her everyday life as a wife, mother, grand-mother, and friend to many. In her younger years, she enjoyed the music of Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, Donna Summer, and, later in life, she became a fan of Queen. She was the most loving mother that anyone could ever ask for, and she poured her life into her sons in every way that a loving mother does.

She grieved heavily the passing of her son George, and we celebrate that on August 30th of this year she was reunited with George and her husband Herbert in heaven. She was a strong Christian, and a member of Highland Baptist Church, Raleigh, for many years. She also attended various United Methodist Churches in South Carolina where her son Barry serves as a pastor. She had strong arms that lifted her sons up when they needed help facing and navigating the challenges of life. She is perpetually loved and will be dearly missed.
