Laura Ethel (Johnson) Barber Obituary

Laura Ethel (Johnson) Barber, age 78, of Greenville, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024. She was born in Greenville on January 10,1946, the daughter of William (Bill) H. and Alice Lillian (Lesley) Johnson. Laura married Leland (Lee) E. Barber on October 13, 1973.

She is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, Leland; children, Rick (Peggy) Campbell, Wayne (Becky) Witzel, Angela (John) Vincent, and Barbara (Mark) Vincent; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and special friends, Trevor and Allison McCready and their children, and Jason and Heidi Ream and their girls.

Laura was a kind, selfless individual who cared about everyone around her. She never left anyone out or behind. For over 40 years, she had been an active member at Calvary Baptist Church. She helped with AWANA, a children’s program through the church. She loved working with the children and made sure each one of them feel loved. Laura commonly introduced herself by saying “You can call me grandma”. She “adopted” many grandchildren throughout the years. It was no secret that Laura loved to be a grandma. For Laura, family always came first. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her dog whom she loved more than life itself.

Funeral services for Laura will take place at Calvary Baptist Church (12501 Montcalm Road Greenville, MI 48838) on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11:00 am, with an hour of visitation prior. Family invites guests to join them for a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church immediately following the service. Graveside services will take place at River Ridge Cemetery (South Bridge Street / Zahm Road Belding MI 48809) following the luncheon. Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church. Laura’s family encourages guests to dress casual as Laura was a casual kind of lady.
