Ervin Adkins Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Ervin Adkins shares the passing of their beloved and proud husband, dad, grandpa, papa, great-grandpa, cousin and friend. He was born October 15, 1945 in Williamson, West Virginia and passed away on August 30, 2024 at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final moments. He was a man of immense love, humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. Ervin was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. His parents settled in Ohio with him and his brother. He worked for Republic Engineered Steel for 45 years, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends.

On January 8, 1966, Ervin married the love of his life, Bessie. Together, they raised three children, James, Jason and Tina. They instilled in them the values of a great work ethic, and the importance of family values. He was a devoted family man, always putting the needs of his loved ones first. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he adored.

He was an active member of Canal Fulton Community Freewill Baptist Church. He was particularly passionate about basketball, ping pong, hand and foot, riding motorcycles, golfing, fishing, playing old 50s and 60s records while dancing with everyone, but also began to enjoy listening to his children and grandchildren more in their musical endeavors, and he enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed following Cleveland sports teams, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and of course the Kentucky Wildcats.

He never stopped passing on his wisdom and love of life and family to his grandchildren. They have said he took them to the park to swing, passing on eating yellow freeze pops on his red glider swing, getting ice cream, fishing, taught them how to love and how to laugh. He loved sitting on the porch listening to the rain and watching the thunderstorms roll in.

His passion for family and friends and his unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.

He was preceded in death by mother, Verdie and father, James Ellis; brother, Leonard and grandparents, Alex and Lear Scott.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bessie; children, James, Jason (Melissa) and Tina (Joe); grandchildren, Rachel, Melissa, Shane (Kate), Kaylee (Mike), Lillian, Lila, Lydia, Hope, CJ, and Ally; great grandchildren, Addilyn, Alek, Briar, Dante, Emma, Declan and Felicity; niece, Candy (Ed); great niece, Amber (Patience) and great nephew, Tristen. He is also survived by a very special cousin that he considered a sister, Yuvonne (Denny), a very special cousin, Kevin (Diana) who will also be officiating the service and his special friends Rick, Becki, David and Iris.
