Aaron Neal “Pete” Channell, age 68 years, a resident of Hopewell, VA, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024.

He was born December 26, 1955 at Elkins, a son of the late Shirley Eldren and Opal Virginia Channell. He was twice-married, first to Ester “Boe” Travise. They had two children, Molli Gonzalez (Edgardo), Aaron Channell and two grandchildren, Marielle and Benicio Gonzalez. He later married Connie Channell who survives along with three step-children, Bryce Carson (Brandi Langone), Brittany Snedden (Chris) and Brandi Westerman (Bill). Pete was known to his children as “Papa Bear”. Also surviving are sisters, Gail Pingley (Dick), Sharon Campbell (Richard); brother, Nick Channell (Lenora) and nieces and nephews, Carol Thompson (Gary), Rosie Shaffer (Sam), Kris Clemens, Jeff Finlen (Cindy), Julie Perry, Mark Finlen (Donna), Nicka Jarrett (Bob) and Brian Channell (Betsy) along with several great nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death were one sister, Donna Kisner and one brother, Danny Channell. Pete was a graduate of Elkins High School and had worked over the years for ENCO Trucking as a driver, Concast Metal and Brenco as a machinist, Ingdam Coal Wash Plant as an operator and Honeywell Mill Wright. He was a well-known machinist and mechanic. After retiring, he worked at City Point Garage in Hopewell, VA part-time. He worked for his good friend Mat South and worked with a good friend, “Uncle” Jack Stanley. Pete enjoyed drag racing, woodworking, time at the beach and coming home to the mountains of West Virginia. He followed WVU football and he shared a deep abiding love for his pets. Aaron’s request for cremation was honored and scattering of his cremains will take place on Cheat Mountain in West Virginia. A Celebration of Life Service with gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Israel Church near Kerens, WV. Pastor Bill Riffee will officiate.
