William "Elvis" Hammons Obituary

William “Elvis” Hammons, 85, of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024. He was born in Shreveport, LA on November 18, 1938, to his parents, William Victor and Alice Ladell Horton Hammons.

Elvis as he was known to many, dedicated forty years of his life to Georgia Pacific before his retirement, he also painted houses as a side job and continued to work hard, providing for his family and staying active.

Elvis had a deep passion for sports, which started in his high school years when he played basketball. His athletic spirit continued as he played softball for many years, and he found joy in bowling, fishing, hunting, and even roller skating. He was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Arkansas Razorbacks, rarely missing a game.

A devoted member of the First Assembly of God Church, Elvis served as a former trustee. His faith was central to his life, guiding his actions and shaping his values.

Above all, Elvis adored his grandchildren.  He was their protector, always ensuring their safety and well-being. His strong values, rooted in faith, hard work, and love, left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Marvin Randall Hammons “Randy”; one granddaughter, Joy Lynn Hammons; and one sister, Helen Francis Hayes.

He leaves behind his wife, Cathy Phillips Hammons of Crossett; and four children, William Hammons, Jr. “Billy” (Dawn) of Benton, AR, Robin Foreman (Bill) of Crossett, Sherri Green (Bruce) of Junction City, AR, and John Hammons (Stacey) of Crossett; along with one daughter-in-law, Jenny Hammons of Crossett; one sister, Emma Smith of Sheridan, AR; one sister-in-law, Johnnie Pickering of Garland, TX; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
