Robert Newton Horton Obituary

Robert Newton Horton of Wittenberg, Wisconsin, met Jesus on August 30, 2024 following a battle with lung cancer. Bob was born on August 22, 1950 in Brown Deer, Wisconsin and was the fourth son of Charles T. and Melisse M. Horton (nee Stamper). He grew up in and around Watertown, Wisconsin, and attended Watertown High School.

Bob spent his early years as a truck driver, then became a diesel mechanic. He later opened his own mechanic business fixing vehicles of all kinds. He loved to cook, and had received some awards for his talent. He enjoyed volunteering to cook at social events and brat barns. He was active in his church in Elcho until he moved away. Bob liked to fish, especially with his brothers, could often be found working on a small engine or machine, and he always had at least one cat in his home.

Bob is survived by his son Thomas (Tammy) Zimdars of Mosinee, his daughter Lisa (Craig) Schroeder of Wittenberg, grandsons Dylan and Tyler Zimdars of Mosinee, brothers Alan M. Horton of Watertown, Clarence (Larry) L. Horton (Lori) of Watertown, John W. Horton of Jefferson, step-brothers Glen (Pat) Rhadans of Jefferson, and Dean Rhadans of Oconomowoc, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two older brothers, Charles E. Horton and William J. Horton, and one step-brother, Dwayne Rhadans.

The family would like to thank the staff at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Bob in his final days. A celebration of life will be held in Watertown at a later date.
