Cordella M. Gaede, 91, of Sumner, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, at MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Tanner Post officiating. Interment will follow at Lutheran Cemetery of Sumner Township, rural Sumner. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 3rd at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the Church on Wednesday.
Cordella Mae, daughter of Neil and Esther (Specht) Fox was born May 31, 1933, at the family’s home, rural Sumner. She was baptized June 12, 1933, at St. John Lutheran Church-Spring Fountain, rural Sumner and confirmed March 30, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner. Cordella attended St. John Lutheran Church-Spring Fountain’s Parochial School. On March 27, 1949, she was united in marriage with James Gaede at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner by Rev. Langholz. Cordella worked as a custodian at Sumner Jr. High School for twenty-five years. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner, Sumner Legion Auxiliary, and the Bremer County Historical Society. Cordella enjoyed shopping, collecting, cooking, baking, stained glass, painting, braiding rugs, and making teddy bears.
Cordella is survived by her sons, Steve (Linda) Gaede of Waverly and Terry Gaede of Sumner; grandchildren, Krista (Robert) Saylor, Jenelle Lee (Dustin) Parkins, and Kelly (Cory Risse) Gaede; great-grandchildren, Lee Ander, Ares, Yudi, Leah, Andy, Grimm, Luka, and Osiris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James; and siblings, Stanton (Stephanie) Fox, Cebert (Diane) Fox, and Isabelle Ehrle.
