Mr. James Douglas Barker, Sr.,80, of Greensboro, passed away on August 30, 2024.

A memorial gathering will be held at George Brothers Funeral Service on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

James was born in Guilford County on July 7, 1944, to the late Jesse James Barker and Ruth Estelle Mitchell Barker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Barker and his sister, Ann Gilliam. James was part of the very first graduating class of Northeast High School. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy and honorably served for six years. He attended Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Brown Summit and enjoyed visiting the American Legion Cone Post 386 on American Legion Street for the Saturday Hotdog Sale.

James is survived by his wife of sixty years, Theresa Cardwell Barker; children, James Barker Jr. (Lisa LaMarr) and Diane Barker Gable (Casey); grandchildren, Mallory Barker Wilcox (Nick), Danielle Thompson Wagner, Conner Gable, Bobbi Thompson Moore and Leann Thompson Suits; great grandchildren, Jasper, Savannah, Wilder, Ashlyn, Jonah, Austin, Dusten, Abigail, Lucas and Zaiden; great great grandchild, Milo; brother, Danny Ray Barker (Michelle) and brother-in-law, Steve Gilliam.

Memorial contributions in memory of James, may be directed to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
