Loretta Viola Silversey Obituary

Loretta Viola Silversey (née Barkowski), a beloved mother, wife, and community member, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, in Midland Park, NJ. Born on May 9, 1935, in Eynon, PA, Viola lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service to others.

Viola was the cherished daughter of Edward and Nellie Barkowski, who instilled in her the values of hard work and compassion. She graduated from Fairlawn High School, where she began cultivating her lifelong passion for learning and community involvement.

Viola's personal life was equally rich and fulfilling. She was an avid golf enthusiast, and her skills on the course earned her the title of Golf Pro, a testament to her talent and dedication to the sport. She also loved the NY Mets and Giants and most recently became a huge UConn women's basketball fan where she watched every game.

Beyond her personal interests, Viola was a devout member of the Columbiettes.

Viola was also a devoted wife to Stephen M. Silversey, her loving husband of 62 years. Their marriage was a beacon of love, commitment, and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful family and created a home filled with warmth and laughter.

She is survived by her children, who were the pride and joy of her life: Noel, Lynne, Stephen and wife Anne, Joseph, and David and wife Katie. Additionally, she had 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Viola's legacy will continue to live on through them, as they carry forward her values, love, and spirit.

While Viola's death leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, her memory will forever be cherished. She was a woman of grace, kindness, and resilience, who touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity.

The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Viola's name, honoring her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Visitation will be held at Morrison/Etheridge Funeral Home 86 Bartholdi Ave. Butler, NJ 07405 on Sept 5th from 4pm - 8pm. A funeral mass will be offered at St Anthony of Padua on September 6th at 11am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, NJ.
