LAFAYETTE ~ Memorial services are pending for Joseph “Hippie” Arceneaux, age 70, who passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, at Calcutta House in Lafayette.

Mr. Joseph “Hippie” Arceneaux was a native of Coulee Crouche and a longtime resident of Lafayette. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, he was also a former member of American Legion.  A devout catholic he was a parishioner of Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Since the age of eighteen, he worked for various trucking companies and was also the owner and operator of his own trucking company for sometime. Hippie loved fishing, visiting with friends and family and telling stories. He especially enjoyed sharing memories about his past; especially his days living in Franklin.

Survivors include one stepson, Alex Melton; one stepdaughter, Latisha Tabb; one brother, Linton Arceneaux, Jr. of Dickinson, TX; one sister, Evelyn Daigle, and her husband, Paul "Randy" Daigle, of Brenham, TX; one godchild, Paul Randy Daigle, II, and his wife Laurie; his great nieces and nephews, Nicole Marylyn Daigle and Haley Joelle Daigle; and a host of extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Linton Arceneaux, Sr., and the former Lillian Venable; two brothers, Ernest Louis Arceneaux and James Percy Arceneaux; and his niece, Dawn Arceneaux.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Hospice of Acadiana and Calcutta House, the doctors and staff at Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana and Radiation Oncology and Lourdes Wound Care and Dr. Mohamad Allam. His caregivers, Khili, Jamie, Amber, and Tiffany with Elara Caring Home Health Support, and a devoted family friend, Charlene Adkins who exceeded every expectation and dedicated herself for years when it came to the well being of Joseph.
