Henry Mattesky, 84, of Cedar Grove passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Henry was born in Jersey City to Henry and Marion. In 1949 he moved to Cedar Grove. As a teenager he worked at Morgan's Farm, a job that he loved, but went on to work at Grand Union to save for his first car. Because of his skills in chemistry, he was hired as a lab technician for Dr. Irving Skeist and was put in charge of product development. He was then offered a job with Magla Products in Newark, NJ, at age 21, as the Production Manager.
Henry grew the company and they expanded to Chatham, N.J., and North Carolina, where he was promoted to Vice President of Manufacturing and New Product Development. He traveled the world and developed many patents throughout his very successful career.
Henry was predeceased by his daughter, Diane McCarthy. He is survived by his devoted daughter Tracey Slattery, son in law George, and David Mattesky; grandchildren Holly, Casey, Brooke, and George; dear siblings Harold (Sharon), Bob (Ginger), Richard (Maureen), and Gayle Hall (Oscar); and many loving nieces and nephews.
He loved spending time with his family, summers in Myrtle Beach, listening and singing to The Eagles, and his dogs Trevor and Tucker.
Henry was selfless in a way that let you know you would never be alone. He was the voice of reason, the trusted advisor, and the person you could always count on. He was the funniest guy around, the one who laughed the loudest, and the one who always made you think you had "something on your shirt." Henry was everything to his loved ones and he leaves a space that will never be filled. He will be truly missed.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Sept 4, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. with a funeral service to be offered at 6:30 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove.
