Joe Lastowka, 88, of Chester, PA, died peacefully at home on August 30th, 2024, surrounded by family. Joe was the son of the late Anthony J. Lastowka Sr. and Irene (Laskowski) Lastowka. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Barbara (Pitts) Lastowka.

Joe attended St. Michael School and graduated from St. James Catholic High School for Boys in 1953. He joined the Chester Police Force in 1958 before being drafted to the United States Army in 1959, where he served as an MP and was stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he met Barbara. They raised their three children in Chester. Joe was also proud of his lifetime membership and service to the Hanley Hose Fire Company.

After his retirement from the Chester Police in 1992, Joe spent 5 years working for SCI Chester, as a mailroom Supervisor. He continued to work part time for many years and he eventually took a job working for Aramark as an Alcoholic Compliance Supervisor at Citizens Bank Park. This was by far his dream job as it gave him a front row seat to his favorite sports team, The Phillies. Joe was an avid sports fan who loved his many trips to Florida for Spring Training games. His love for sports was second only to his love for his grandchildren. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on in their various activities.

Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Jeannette (Lastowka) Platt and her husband, Larry, and brother, Richard Lastowka.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Joe is survived by his children, Sharon (Lastowka) Knasiak (Ken), Joseph Lastowka (Cheryl), and Diane (Lastowka) Smith (Tom), his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Knasiak) Brees (Dan), Kevin Lastowka, Andrew Lastowka, Sara Knasiak, Caroline Smith, sister-in-law, Theresa, along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Thursday September 5th, 2024 from 9:30-10:45AM at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 1920 Providence Ave., Chester, PA 19013.
Funeral Mass: Thursday, September 5, at 11AM at St. Katharine Drexel Church.

Burial will be held privately at a later date in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Alumni Association, 1499 East 9th St. Eddystone, PA 19022.
