He was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Stella Howell. He was born in Irwinville and was the son of the late Ernest Lovett Howell and Alvie Gay Howell. A member of Wenona Baptist Church, Alex retired from insurance sales with Woodman of the World after 20 plus years. He was an avid fisherman but he also loved to hunt and his favorite place for this was out the kitchen window. Carpentry was a special pastime for him. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he taught Radar repair. After his miltary time, he worked on a missile tracking ship and could tell stories for hours on end about those days. Alex is survived by his wife of 16 years Judy Rich Howell; three children and their spouses, Lee and Brandi Howell and Jake and Sarah Howell, all of Cordele and Jennifer Dennard of Vidalia; a sister and her husband, Sue and Bobby John Fletcher of Irwinville; six grandchildren, Dallas Howell, Dalton Howell, Parker Peacock, Stella Howell, Ariel Peacock and Amy (Ivey) Beckum; and two great-grandchildren, Massey James Beckum and Memphis William Beckum.
